Description:
Manuscript on dietetics, written in several instalments at at least two different periods of Linnaeus's life: in 1733, and after his return from the continent in 1738.
'Diaeta naturalis' owes a great deal to Linnaeus's tour of Lapland in 1732, where he observed the Lapps' healthier way of living, in an undisturbed natural environment.
The manuscript was started a year later for Linnaeus's private tuitions on dietetics and the natural way of living. 'Diaeta naturalis' was left unfinished.
The last stage of the manuscript can be dated from the beginning of the other manuscript on dietetics, 'Lachesis naturalis', which Linnaeus begun when he started lecturing on the subject. 'Lachesis naturalis' is mostly based on 'Diaeta naturalis', and consequently much of the contents in 'Diaeta' are crossed out, probably as Linnaeus copied the material into his 'Lachesis' manuscript.
