Unit ID:

Date of document:
post1774
Description:
Preparatory manuscript, written by an amanuensis, with Linnaeus's corrections in a very bad handwriting, caused by his first stroke in 1774. One sheet has Linnaeus Filius's determinations. Most of Linnaeus's amendments and corrections concern the specific epithets.
Probably intended to be published in some form, possibly as a supplement to "Systema naturae".
Many entries are copied from Linnaeus's paper slips (this is the case for "Mus lineatus", "Mus fossor", "Mus jerboa", "Cavia fossoria" at the beginning), in the same way that the botanical paper slips were copied into the preparatory manuscript for Linnaeus's Filius's 1781 "Supplementum plantarum".
Some entries have been crossed out.
Gatherings indicate signs of having been sown together. Last gathering still conserves its string.
Entries for 'Quadrupedia', 'Aves', 'Amphibia', 'Pisces', 'Insecta', excluding 'Vermes'.
Collectors and donors are indicated and include: Dassow, Pennant, Anna Blackburne, Alexander Garden, Forster, Fothergill, Sparrman, Staaf, Thunberg, J. White and others.
