Description:
Letter sent from Carl Linnaeus fil., in Stockholm, to Peter Simon Pallas (1741-1811), in St Petersburg, Russia, on 6 December 1778. With part of seal, and folds of letter visible. Addressed to 'Monsieur Pallas, Professeur tres celebre, a St Pettersbourg'.
Linnaeus fil. apologises for the delay in sending Pallas a letter, which is due to dealing with his father's estate. He has been busy with political affairs all autumn.
He has a variety of insects for Pallas, but no one has "Luccanus tridentata", and neither did his father, who only saw the skeleton in Öland.
Pallas's seeds from Sibiria have happily germinated. "Rabinia pygmaea" was among some of the few who did not germinate.
This year Linnaeus fil. had an amazing plant (a species of "Hedysarum"), and still it thrives, not yet in bloom.
Linnaeus fil. keeps for himself Persian insects and prays Pallas to send him some specimens.
He is expecting some from Thunberg, who is now on his way back. He will have even more next summer, from France, Spain, Peru and Mexico. Linnaeus fil. wishes from some plant seeds. Asks a question about Pallas's "Leontice".
Announces the future publication of "Supplementum systemae Naturae edit. XIII".
