Description:
Draft or unsent letter from Carl Linnaeus fil. to Madame du Gage de Pommereul, in response to her letter (probably du Gage de Pommereul to Carl Linnaeus the Younger, 10 March 1778, "The Linnaean correspondence", linnaeus.c18.net, letter L6269).
Linaneus fil. thanks her for her pleasant letter, praises her for her knowledge of botany, and thanks her for her praises concerning his father. He only received her letter at the end of the past month, whereas he received a letter from Mr. Gouan in Montpellier within a fortnight. He wishes to fulfill her requests, but stresses that he cannot prevent the damage the plants might incur in transit, or eaten by insects. He will therefore send them drawn and described. The grasses are presently flowering in the garden, and he will send some. He can see that this branch of science will benefit from her intelligence, and that her name will be one of the most beautiful ornaments of literary history.
